| | Greetings investors!
Here's an interesting deal that came across my desk this week -- Trevali Resources Corp.
An old friend of mine is associated with them, Steve Stakiw. He's a geologist turned journalist, having done a recent stint as Western Editor for The Northern Miner newspaper. Now he's doing IR.
Trevali is fast-tracking a former silver-lead-zinc producer in west-central Peru called the Santander Mine, located within the Cerro de Pasco silver and base metal district. As of '93, Santander had mined roughly 8 million tonnes of material from a single high-grade carbonate replacement deposit pipe/manto structure.
They're drilling off three similar structures located roughly 1-2 km north of the original deposit, and getting 'significant results', according to Steve.
Santander includes mill/concentrating circuits plus a 1,000-person camp and hydroelectric station that powers the operation. They've also appeased the local populace by paying down the sundry debts and outstanding wages left unpaid by the former operator.
Trevali is now in the midst of a $3-million refurbishment program on the processing/flotation circuit and is on-track for initial production by Q4 of this year. They plan to reprocess tailings from previous operations (sections averaging 3% zinc) and transition to high-grade Ag-Pb-Zn hard rock by late '09, after receiving the necessary permits and approvals.
I rather like these polymetal plays, especially those with significant base metal values. They've had intercepts on the Magistral zones ranging to 6.3 metres of 8.9 oz/t silver, 7.85% zinc and 6.7% lead including a one metre section running 40.4 oz/t silver.
Silver is constituting roughly 20-25% of the metal value, with some drilled intersections returning 74 metres of 7.7 oz/t silver-equivalent and higher-grade portions of 22.7 oz/t silver-equivalent over 7.9 metres.
Trevali is listed on Canada's CNQ but plans to go on the Toronto and Lima Stock Exchanges soon. They're part of the Cardero Group that includes Cardero Resources, International Tower Hill Mines, Dorato Resources and Wealth Minerals.
